Living with Pancreatic Cancer

Be kind to every one you meet.

It is more true every day that I live... For everyone is bearing burdens, some harder than we can even imagine...

Cally Adams is an oncology nurse and she knows about cancer.  In the twisted way of life, her sister, Sarah, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Cally has been by her side throughout treatment, and not long ago, she shared her heart in such a transparent way.  The resilience, the shock, the love and the heartache.  Oh and it just breaks me... if pancreatic cancer has touched you, then perhaps you have walked in her shoes and  know what it means to be living with purpose and intent even in the midst of the nightmare...

"I know what it’s like to feel like you’re in a nightmare every single day. And that somehow, between feeling like you’re living a nightmare and hoping for a miracle, you are supposed to continue to work, pay bills, eat well, exercise, sleep well, be kind and understanding of others and their needs, answer texts and phone calls, keep people updated, make appointments and keep them, be a good wife and mom to your toddler – and oh, put a smile on your face even when your heart is breaking."

                                                                               ~ Cally Adams

Living under the black mantle of pancreatic cancer brings a heaviness, a bleakness, that few talk about.  Sometimes there are no words... just shoulders to lean on and arms to hold... And the pain is not exclusive to the cancer warrior.  So many are walking out the grief of other battles... perhaps the shadow of divorce, or an child's addiction, or the wrenching loss of a loved one...

Lifting up all the Sarah's and the Cally's and the loved ones fighting these Battles. Every. Single. Day.  May there be Light and Grace and Hope to carry you through the Heartache.

You do not battle alone.

Always,
Jane

Shout Out to our Fabulous Medical Teams...

Sometimes our doctors, nurses and staff go unrecognized for the amazing, heartbreaking, compassionate job they do...

love this story from The MetaPicture:

These are the Little Things that Make
THE DIFFERENCE IN LIFE

"Meet 9-year old Joshua.  He recently had to go in for surgery and was so nervous that he brought along his stuffed wolf.  The wolf had a tear in its leg, so Joshua asked if his doctor could do a wolf surgery too.  His parents said "no."

But when they walked into the recovery room to see their son, they discovered the little wolf laying next to him; this time, with a surgical mask, a little cast, and surgical quality sutures in his leg.

We think the entire surgical staff deserves some serious respect and love for this act of kindness."

I simply adore this.

Thank you to all our doctors and nurses and technicians and medical teams who minister over us,
this cancer journey we find ourselves on is not easy.
Your tender touch, healing words and solidarity in the fight
has made a Huge Difference.

You are a Gift!

Battlefield Break - Hello Fall!

Coming home from our whirlwind trip north, we took some beautiful back roads and decided to stop at the historic Deutsch Country Days in central Missouri.

It was a gorgeous fall day, and the grounds were all decked out in autumn's finest... as we hiked and stretched our legs, we happened upon this incline in the path.  Just ahead of us, a fellow hiker slipped and took a hard fall.  Within seconds, those nearest her quickly lent their aid.   People she didn't even know saw her need and stopped to offer help.  She wasn't injured badly, but it reminded me of the kindnesses that we all need along this journey.

When we take a fall... when the path becomes steep... when we can't find our way... it is the kindness of others that often graces our lives and makes the hard things bearable somehow.

So, on this last Battlefield Break of our 31 Day Journey, we're celebrating the Beauty of Fall and the Kindness that touches all our lives.

As the leaves gild gold and summer's days grow short, might you find Kindness an unexpected and sweet companion as you journey along the way!
