Battlefield Break - Finding ourselves on the Battlefield Road

Sometimes the battle comes to you...
And sometimes you must move to the battle.

This week past, the Farmer's mother took a painful fall and found herself in the ER with a nasty concussion and broken hip.

We received the phone call that every one with elderly parents fears...although stable, she was in a lot of pain and doctors began talking about brain bleeds and MRI's and keeping her for observations...with our hearts tumbling we threw together a suitcase of clothes and began the drive from Texas to Illinois.

As dark descended, we finally gave in to the need for sleep and pulled over to the nearest hotel.

It wasn't until the following morning that I realized what a good sense of humor God has... for there at the corner of the interstate and our hotel parking lot was a road sign, completely meant for me...

You just can't make this stuff up!  In the dark of night, we had checked in to the Quality Inn Hotel on Battlefield Road.

Seriously!
So, just a reminder, in case you've missed it these past 2 weeks,
we've been on the Battlefield Road...

Ok, enough, already...

More importantly, we made it safely to Millie's side and found her smiling a welcome, but bruised from head to toe, with staples in her head and an extremely painful, fractured hip...

There was hardly an inch of her not hurting...
hugs were gentle and oh, so careful.
Our worry meters had been off the charts,
so it was such a relief to see her sweet face.

The week has passed quickly with doctor visits, Ct scans and MRI's,
reports and consults, pain meds and therapy,
and finally a plan to get her back "home" to the Marigold.

There she was surrounded by love of the happiest kind...

The battle is not over... it will be weeks for the hip to heal...
but the healing has begun.

Gratitude spilling for all the prayers and well wishes,
it is Grace to give Praise this day!

Battlefield Break...Babies at the Fair

The Texas State Fair is a magical place!  And this past week we got to experience it through the fresh, innocent eyes of this sweet little one...

Even battle-weary soldiers can feel the joy... heading off with excitement for adventures new...

And meeting new friends around every corner...

Little ones that tickle your fingers...

And Texas-size Big Ones!

Not so fond of Big Tex...his loud voice was "scary"!

nor very fond of the caurosel horses either...

But then we found the real thing, and it was so much better!

Mesmerized by the beautiful cowgirls and their dashing steeds,
that is, until they dashed off in a rumbling gallop into the arena for their show...
crying may, or may not, have been involved :-(

So we pursued the fair for smaller game and found these sweet chicks...

...and this gorgeous mama Frizzle hen!

(note to self and Farmer husband: Get Frizzles for the Lake Place soon!!)

And so, a day well spent with this happy little charmer.
Renewed, Refreshed, and Rejoicing in sweet Blessings.

May you find just such joy right where you are this day.
Letting Grace carry the burden...
Love Always, Jane

Battlefield Break...Birthdays and Bonfires

Sundays have always been days for worship... for rest... for praise... for beauty.

And this needn't change in the Battlefield.  We are taking a break this day to relish in family and the joy they bring...

A celebration of years... 80 to be exact!  We spent the weekend at our lake place honoring my father on this, his 80th Birthday...

There was food...

and friendly, rock-skipping challenges between brothers...

and fishing fun on Brushy Creek...

But no Bonfires :-(
We are under another Burn Ban,
Even after the historic spring floods,
we find ourselves right back in drought conditions.

But no matter...

It was a weekend that mom would have absolutely loved,
we don't take a minute of this for granted...
it was blessing and bliss all rolled into one.

There were smiles a'plenty...

and special picture book memories...

And then to top it all off and make a Birthday weekend even more exciting,
we gathered together and Christened Poppy's new fishing cabin!

This little fishing cabin has been a dream of his for a long time.
We offered up a little corner of our wild, tangled 11 acres,
and it is now his weekend, fishing, guest house...
It is the cutest little "tiny home" you could ever love!

Come inside and take a peek...

Happy Birthday Poppy!

We love you to the Moon and Back!
